ABOUT THIS SAFARI
About This 4 Day Amboseli and Tsavo Safari
This Amboseli and Tsavo safari is a one way trip from Nairobi to the coast through three of southern Kenya’s best parks. You see the elephant herds of Amboseli National Park with Kilimanjaro behind them, the volcanic hills and springs of Tsavo West National Park and the open red plains of Tsavo East National Park, then finish at your hotel in Diani or Mombasa.
It is the ideal way to add a safari before a beach holiday. Instead of driving back to Nairobi, every day moves you closer to the Indian Ocean, with game drives along the way. Highlights include the elephant swamps of Amboseli, the underwater hippo hide at Mzima Springs, the Shetani lava flow and Aruba Dam in Tsavo East.
You travel in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with your own driver guide, with full board on safari and park fees included. Coast accommodation is booked separately, or we can add it for you. For a longer version with beach nights included, see the 9 Days Amboseli, Tsavo and Diani Beach Safari.

The Full Itinerary
Your driver guide collects you from your Nairobi hotel at 7.30am. You leave on the Mombasa road and turn south at Emali towards Amboseli, about four to five hours in total, arriving at your lodge for lunch.
Your evening game drive heads to the swamps, where elephant families gather to drink and bathe. Watch for buffalo, hippo and wildebeest on the plains, and for Kilimanjaro appearing as the cloud lifts at sunset.
Activities: Drive to Amboseli, evening game drive to the swamps
Meals: Lunch and dinner · Overnight: Lodge, Amboseli
An early game drive gives you the best chance of a clear view of Kilimanjaro over the elephant herds. After breakfast you drive east past the Chyulu Hills into Tsavo West National Park, about three hours, arriving for lunch.
In the afternoon you visit Mzima Springs, where an underwater viewing chamber lets you watch hippo and fish in the clear water, and walk along the black rock of the Shetani lava flow, formed a few hundred years ago.
Activities: Sunrise game drive in Amboseli, drive to Tsavo West, Mzima Springs, Shetani lava flow
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner · Overnight: Lodge, Tsavo West
After breakfast you leave Tsavo West at the Tsavo River gate and drive towards Voi, entering Tsavo East National Park at Voi gate.
Your afternoon game drive heads to Aruba Dam, a reservoir that draws elephant, buffalo and zebra through the dry months. Tsavo East’s elephants are famous for their red colour, from dust bathing in the volcanic soil, and lion and cheetah hunt on the open plains.
Activities: Drive to Tsavo East, afternoon game drive to Aruba Dam
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner · Overnight: Lodge, Tsavo East
A morning game drive on the way to Buchuma gate, then the drive down to the coast, about three hours.
