3 Days Safari to Aberdares National Park and Mt Kenya
Safari Overview
This is a 3-day safari to Aberdares National Park and Mt Kenya. Aberdare is a 3 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Aberdares National Park offers a mountainous scenery with renowned waterfalls like Karuru water falls, Gura waterfalls and Magura water falls. The park is home to rare wildlife species including–Black rhino, Black Leopard and the Eastern Bongo (a huge forest Antelope). Buffalos, leopard, lion, elephants, giraffes, blue and colobus monkey, warthog, giant forest hog among many others are also found in the park. The dragon teeth which are a volcanic, rock formation assuming the rugged look of a set of teeth sitting on a jaw is also found in the park. Mt Kenya is one of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa. Three major peaks dot the mountainous scenes. These are; Batian (5,199m) & Nelion (5,188m). The two are mainly for visitors interested in technical climbing activities. The third peak is Point Lenana (4,984m). The park also houses wildlife such as elephants, black and white colobus buffalo, and Sykes monkeys, rock and tree hyrax, white tailed mongoose, mole rat, and many more. Over 130 bird species are also found in the park. While at Mt Kenya you can enjoy mountain climbing, and camping, game viewing, picnicking, bird watching, scenery and nature photography. You will stay at the Ark Lodge/Treetops Lodge. Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park is The Ark Lodge. Ark comprises of three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide a superb location for wildlife viewing. Hence the name Ark which is named after Noah’s Ark. / Treetops Lodge is famous as the place where Queen Elizabeth II visited as a princess and left as queen. Treetops Lodge is a perfect place for game viewing as it is strategically sited right in front of a natural watering hole and salt lick.
You will be picked up from your Nairobi Hotel/Airport and Depart for your Aberdares safari at 7.30 am. This is quite a beautiful journey passing through the Kenyan Highlands, past pineapple and coffee plantations. You arrive at your lodge just in time for lunch. In the afternoon you proceed to the park for a game drive in search of the Black Leopard, Black rhino and the Eastern Bongo (a huge forest Antelope), Elephants, buffalos, giraffes, blue and colobus monkey, leopard, lion, warthog. Enjoy the cooler mountainous scenery region. Lunch, dinner and overnight at The Ark Lodge/Treetops Lodge.
On this day, wake up to breakfast before departing your lodge with packed lunch boxes for Mt Kenya. The mountain offers various activities from mountain climbing, bird watching, scenery and nature photography. The mountain hosts wildlife such as buffalo, monkeys, rock, elephants, black and white colobus and Sykes and tree hyrax, white tailed mongoose, mole rat. During lunch, with the help of your guide, set up a picnic site in the mountains. Enjoy your lunch as well as the beautiful scenery. In the evening drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at The Ark Lodge/Treetops Lodge.
Being your last day in the mountainous region, wake up to a warm breakfast. Depart your lodge and drive back to Nairobi. Upon arrival you will be dropped off at your hotel/Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home. Breakfast at The Ark Lodge /Treetops Lodge.
