Safari Overview

This is a 20 Days safari visiting the Meru National Park, Samburu National Reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha, Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Amboseli National Park, Tsavo West National Park, Tsavo East National Park and Mombasa/Diani. Meru Meru National Park is less visited hence has an unspoilt natural beauty. The park is home to wildlife species including Grevy’s zebra, lion, cheetah, elephant, leopard, hartebeest, hippo, buffalo and the reticulated giraffe among others. Meru also hosts a rhino sanctuary which is home to the endangered black and white rhino species. Birds of over 400 species have been recorded including bee-eaters, Peter’s Fin foot, Pel’s fishing owl, kingfishers, rollers, starlings and weavers. Samburu National Reserve is in the Northern part of Kenya on the banks of Ewaso Nyiro river. Samburu National Reserve is home to rare animal species such as the Grevy Zebra, Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx Reticulated Giraffe, and Somali Ostrich. It is also home to Elephants, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. Ol Pejeta Conservancy lies on the Equator and boasts of wonderful views of Mt Kenya. The Conservancy houses Kenya’s largest population of Black Rhino, large numbers of elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard, African wild dog and plentiful plains game. The conservancy also has a number of the rare Northern species such as Grevys Zebra, Jackson’s Hartebeest and Beisa Oryx. Ol Pejeta Conservancy also permits night game drives which focus on species not seen during day game drives. Lake Nakuru boasts not only of the flamingos but also approx. 400 other species of birds. Other wildlife can also be found in the park. This includes the Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon, waterbuck, reedbuck, and many species. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake. At the lake enjoy a boat ride as you see hippos up close. The lake also has hundreds of birds including the famous fish eagle. You will be able to spot some wildlife like zebras, buffalos, baboons among many others at the shores of the lake. Hell’s gate National Park offers a beautiful scenery including star rocked towers, towering cliffs, and the belching plumes of geothermal steam. You can enjoy rock climbing, hiking, bicycle riding and a natural spa while at Hells Gate. The Crescent Island Game Sanctuary is one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya and is often called Naivasha’ s best-kept secret. The game sanctuary is a perfect spot for Wildlife and Bird Watching.   The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is home to a large amount for animals making it one of the ideal places for wildlife viewing in Africa. Game drives in the reserve take place all year round and each offers a unique experience of the park. Animals in the great Mara include zebras, lions, elephants, giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, Topis, hippos, impala, cheetahs, leopards, hartebeests. Bird lovers are not left out, the birds in Mara come in many colors and sizes with more than 400 bird species, including birds of prey. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is also famously known for the wildebeest migration which takes place from the month of July through to October. Millions of animals migrate to the Mara from Serengeti in search for fresh green pastures and water. This is the largest migration of animals in the universe. There is no experience that can be compared to seeing the mass movement of the beautiful wildlife. Amboseli National Park, crowned by the breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is one of the most popular parks in Kenya. The name “Amboseli” was derived from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”. The park is a perfect place to view large herds of elephants up close. The Mount Kilimanjaro filters thousands of meters of volcanic rock giving the park endless supply of water. Animal species found include elephant, giraffe, impala, zebra, wildebeest, and leopard. For bird lovers, birds in the park include kingfisher, African fish eagle, pelican, bee eater and pygmy falcon. You can also get to experience the authentic culture of the Maasai Community who live around the park. Tsavo West National Park is a beautiful wilderness, from the millions of gallons of crystal-clear water from the Mzima Springs not to mention the Shetani lava flows. Tsavo West offers some of the most unforgettable game viewing and wildlife include Hippos, lions, cheetah, elephant, rhino, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant. Bird species include the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler. Tsavo East National park forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is hosts most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust – Rhino, buffalo, lion, red elephant, leopard, waterbucks, lesser Kudu, gerenuk, pods of hippo, crocodile, and bird life with around 500 recorded species. Tsavo East also boasts of the 300-kilometer-long Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world not to mention the dust-red elephant wallowing, rolling and spraying each other with the waters of Galana River. Mombasa is a city with beautiful white sandy beaches and a deep historical and cultural heritage. Diani beach is south of Mombasa, approximately an hour drive. Diani Beach is one of the greatest water sports destinations in East Africa. It offers a variety of water sports including jet-skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddle boarding. At Diani there is always an activity for everyone. Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi drive to Meru National Park

You will be picked up from your Nairobi Hotel/Airport and Depart for your Meru National Park safari. we depart for Meru National Park. At Embu town you will have a brief stopover. You arrive at your camp late in the afternoon in time for lunch. You head to Meru National Park in the evening for a game drive. The park hosts large pride of lions, herds of buffalo, hippos and crocodiles that live in the rivers. Meru National Park is known for its natural beauty and fauna. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp.

Day 2 Full Day at Meru National Park

Wake up to an early morning game drive before returning to your camp for breakfast. After breakfast depart the camp for even greater adventure. During the game drive you will possibly spot the elephants, hippos, lions, leopards and cheetahs, largest herds of buffalo, giraffes, gazelles along with hartebeests. There are also some rare antelope including the Lesser Kudu, duiker and dik-dik, a tiny African antelope that is notoriously shy. Bird lovers will watch around 400 species of birds including rollers, bee-eaters, the Peters Finfoot, starlings and numerous weavers. Breakfast, Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp.

Day 3 Meru National Park drive to Samburu National Reserve

We depart for Samburu after breakfast. You arrive at the camp just in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive is planned in the reserve. You are likely to spot the Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk, Grevy Zebra, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich, Elephants, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. In the evening drive back to your camp for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch and dinner at Samburu Sopa Lodge.

Day 4Full Day at Samburu National Reserve

You will wake up to an early morning game drive before returning to the camp for breakfast. After breakfast return to the reserve for a full day game drive with packed lunch boxes. You will possibly sight unique wildlife species like Oryx, Gerenuk, Gravy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich and other wild animals’ peculiar to this semi-arid region. The game drives will be along Ewaso Nyiro river where most of the wild animals are found. Bird lovers are not left out as the reserve boasts of different species of birds. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge. 

Day 5Samburu National Reserve drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After morning breakfast, we depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy. You arrive at the camp in the afternoon in time for lunch. Late in afternoon you visit the Ol Pejeta Conservancy for an afternoon game drive. You are likely to see chimpanzees and other wild animals in the parts of the conservancy. In the evening drive back to your camp for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, dinner and overnight stay at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.

Day 6Ol Pejeta Conservancy drive to Lake Nakuru

Check out from the lodge after breakfast and head to Lake Nakuru National Park. You arrive at Lake Nakuru and proceed to your Lodge for check in. After lunch you proceed for an afternoon game drive at the park to see the hundreds of animals including lion, buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffe, waterbuck, reedbuck, leopard, black and white rhino, baboon. Later in the evening return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch and dinner at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.

Day 7Full Day at Lake Nakuru

Spend the entire day at Lake Nakuru National Park. You start off around the lake where there are numerous flamingos, white pelicans, ibis, plovers, storks, herons and many others. Enjoy your game driving until lunch time. You will also be able to see the hundreds of animals in the park including lion, buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, leopard, baboon. In the evening you drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Breakfast and Lunch at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.

Day 8Lake Nakuru drive to Lake Naivasha

Check out from the lodge after breakfast and head to Lake Naivasha. You arrive at Lake Naivasha and proceed to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for check in. You depart the lodge with packed lunch boxes for Hell’s gate national park. Enjoy a bike ride and walking safari at the Hells Gate. Your guide will assist you hire a good bike for the Hells gate bike ride. The guided walking safari starts immediately from the Hells gate in the company of an experienced guide. Break for your picnic lunch at the Hells gate national park picnic site as you view the park. You will depart Hell’s gate national park and proceed to Lake Naivasha to enjoy a boat ride while seeing hippos, birds, and the views of the lake. Enjoy a 2-hour boat ride while fishing in the lake as you watch the hippos and hundreds of bird species. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

Day 9Lake Naivasha drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve

Head out to Maasai Mara at 7.00 am. Brief stopover at Narok. You arrive at your camp in the afternoon just in time for your check in and lunch. An evening game drive is planned in one of the top Safari destinations in East Africa, Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Later in the evening you return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay. Bonfire is organized at the camp upon request. You can also enjoy listening to fun Maasai stories. Lunch, dinner and overnight at your Camp/ Lodge. 

Day 10Full Day at Masai Mara Game Reserve

You will wake up to an early morning game drive before returning to your camp for breakfast. After breakfast we leave the camp for a full day adventure with packed lunch boxes. Full days’ game drives take us around the reserve in search of the Big Five and plenty of other wildlife inhabiting this Kenyan game reserve. When you visit the Masai Mara you are most likely to see wildlife such as Topis, impala, hartebeests, giraffes, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, baboons, warthogs, wildebeest. Hippos, elephants, buffaloes, lions and zebras are also found in great numbers. It is harder to spot Cheetahs and leopards, but reasonably common. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and overnight at your camp/ Lodge. 

Day 11Maasai Mara Game Reserve drive to Lake Naivasha

Check out from the lodge after breakfast and head to Lake Naivasha. You arrive at Lake Naivasha and proceed to Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge for check in. You will then proceed to the Crescent Island to enjoy the perfect views of Wildlife and Birds. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

Day 12Lake Naivasha drive to Amboseli National Park

Head to Amboseli National Park after breakfast. Arrive at the Amboseli Camp just in time for lunch. In the afternoon you head to the park for a game drive, a park famously known for its big game and the majestic scenery of Mt Kilimanjaro. During your drive you will possibly spot giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, elephant, impala and leopard. In the evening drive back to your camp for dinner and overnight. Lunch, Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Day 13Full Day at Amboseli National Park

Wake up to an early morning game drive before returning to your camp for breakfast After breakfast return to the park for even more adventure with packed lunch boxes. During your game drive you will possibly spot the birds like pelican, bee eater, kingfisher, African fish eagle and pygmy falcon. Day 14Amboseli National Park drive to Tsavo West National Park

Early morning breakfast before leaving for Tsavo West National Park. Arrive at your lodge just in time for lunch. In the afternoon drive to the park for a game drive. Tsavo West National Park is famously known for the red elephants, Oryx and Gerenuk among other mammal’s species and birdlife. During the afternoon game drive, you will encounter many animals such as elephants, giraffes, lions, hartebeests and many more. In the evening drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Salt Lick Safari Lodge.

Day 15Tsavo West National Park drive to Tsavo East National Park

Early morning breakfast before leaving for Tsavo Est National Park. Arrive at your lodge just in time for lunch. In the afternoon drive to the park for a game drive. Tsavo East National Park is famously known for its dust-covered red elephants and maneless lions. The Park offers a magical wild experience of watching different wildlife species. In the evening drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 16Full Day at Tsavo East National Park

You will wake up to a morning game drive before returning to your lodge for breakfast. After breakfast return to the park for even more adventure with packed lunch boxes. During your game drive you will possibly spot elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, zebras and many more. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Day 17Tsavo East National Park to Mombasa/Diani

Early breakfast before departing the lodge for Emali station to board a train to Mombasa. On arrival our driver guide will transfer you to your hotel. After lunch, you can opt to rest at the hotel swimming pool or at the beach. Breakfast at Ashnil Aruba Lodge, lunch and dinner at Voyager beach resort/ Neptune Palm Beach.

Day 18Full Day at Mombasa/Diani

On this day, you will engage in fun activities of your choice at the beach. At Diani you can visit the Wasini Island. Breakfast, lunch, Dinner and Overnight Voyager beach resort/ Neptune Palm Beach.

Day 19Full Day at Mombasa/Diani

On this day, you will engage in fun activities of your choice at the beach. Diani offers a wide range of activities like Camel Ride along the beach, Kisite Marine Park Tour, Beach gallery tour among many others. Breakfast, lunch, Dinner and Overnight Voyager beach resort/ Neptune Palm Beach.

Day 20Mombasa/Diani to Nairobi

On your last day at the Kenyan coast, wake up to a sumptuous breakfast before leaving your hotel for the airport for your flight back to Nairobi/ the SGR terminus for your train back to Nairobi. Drop off at your Nairobi hotel/at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home. Breakfast at Voyager beach resort/ Neptune Palm Beach.
